During Spain’s Golden Age, Doña Prouhèze, the wife of a nobleman, falls deeply in love with Don Rodrigo, who is forced to leave Spain and go to America, where he will serve as viceroy. Meanwhile the king sends Prouhèze to Africa to rule the city of Mogador. Prouhèze sends a letter to Don Rodrigo, but he only reads it ten years later. Leaving the New Continent, Rodrigo arrives in Mogador, where he perhaps reencounters Prouhèze, who ends up dying locked away in the fortress. After ten years, Rodrigo, who is now mutilated, meets Sept-Epées, Prouhèze’s daughter.
